Does anyone on this forum have tips for a newly grad looking to open or buy a flower shop? What can I expect when borrowing, how much to borrow, and in general just where to start first? I have a business idea but I am not business-based, I have a degree in Plant Science so I may be business challenged AT FIRST!

    Any advice is much appreciated

I am in the process of purchasing a floral shop. Going back and Forth in my head of what to do… leave my coorporste job of 10 years working 8-5 and no weekend to dive into 6 days a week. What’s your thoughts?

    1. Idalina Bertone says:

      Hi Candace,

Running a flower shop does require determination, lots of hard work accompanied by losing your free weekends and holidays however the passion for running a floral business should outweigh the cons.

I firmly believe that if this is your passion you should go for it and realize that with any career there is always a give and take.

If you are still uncertain about making the leap I would think about it some more and possibly work for a florist on weekends to see how it goes.

      I hope this helps!

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I am in the process of purchasing a flower shop. The owner priced the shop a bit too high based on her financials. I asked her to reconsider her price based on her financials and now she is going to show it to a florist that has owned other flower shops in the area and wants me to present to her my proposed price. I’ve never done this before and I am worried about what to propose as my price. Any suggestions?
