Having an organic search result of 3, 2 or 1 will guarantee you more clicks and orders, considering your floral website is user-friendly and appealing. Here are some common myths and facts about florist website SEO!

Myth or Fact #1 – Companies can guarantee my floral shop placement on Google

Myth! No company has an in with Google or any other search engine, and no company can place you first – SEO takes time and work. Companies will often tell you that for a small fee and my floral shop can list number 1 in my organic search results on the first page. There is absolutely no way to guarantee your placement.

Myth or Fact #2 – Florist search results are composed of Organic, Local, and PPC 

FACT! What does this mean? 

  • Pay Per Click (PPC) – Are ads that you pay for. Once someone clicks on your ad, you will be charged the agree amount. 
  • Local Results – derived from your Google My Business profile
  • Organic Results  – Is the natural placement listed on a search engine results – methods such as keywords, back linking and writing high-quality content can all improve a site’s ranking.

Fact!  Local search results are super important – you have seen the map on Google . Local search narrows down searches to a particular geographic area. These results are above the page and take a lot of space and are super appealing to the consumers as it shows them what they need in their area. Myth or Fact #4 – My flower shop ranks first on Google

Myth and may be Fact! OK this may be a trick answer but more often customers think they are first when in reality they are not. What, you may ask?

Well, it’s an easy secret revealed that many do not want you to know. On Google look over to your top right right:

  • Personal Results – the person icon is selected by default – this will show you personalized results
  • World/Global Results – the globe icon will give you the results that most of the rest of the world sees

Myth or Fact #5 – Content on my florist website is not important

Myth! Content which means text is super important, search engines indexes words and you want them to pick up on your keywords. Be a writer and add text! Search engines love to see wordy About Us pages and full descriptions of all your wedding and sympathy work, pages for the towns you deliver to, florist tips, and more.

Myth or Fact #6 – My florist website is cute and popular, so it lists higher

Myth! A cute website does not make sales, some customers list number 1 and still have poor ordering traffic on their website, consumers like simple and easy. 

Myth or Fact#7 – My floral mobile site is not really that important

Myth! Consumers use their mobile device more than any other device for online shopping. Websites that are suitable for mobile versions have priority on Google. Please make sure your floral website provider is equipped for all mobile and tablets devices.

 

There are many facets of SEO, however knowing these general basics will give you a upperhand on understanding how it works. It is good to have your website provider help answer any other questions you may have. Remembering that SEO takes time and requires patience however you will get there.

Valentine’s Day is the busiest and potentially most profitable day for any flower shop. So what can you do to make your life a little easier (and make more money!). Here are some tips from Floranext. Let us know your suggestions in the comments section below!

Two Weeks Before Valentine’s Day

  1. Email marketing – Send out a $5 off coupon to customers. Make sure you pull all the email addresses from your florist POS system
  2. Codified Arrangements – Make codified or flower specific orders before designer’s choice orders to ensure you can fill orders properly.
  3. Pre-buy flowers – order roses early from trusted sources. Pre order 1/2 of what you think you need and get the rest as you need it from wholesalers

The Week of Valentine’s Day

  1. Website Update – update your website prices!
  2. Pre-Arranging – Hand tie greens for vase drop in, store in waxed boxes and spray with anti desiccant
  3. Pricing – If possible have a lower price point with 30 or 40 cm roses for cash and cary
  4. Single Roses – Have many single roses wrapped
  5. Big sellers – a single wrapped roses with box of candy attached display these in a basket at counter
  6. Save Money! – Colored roses are always cheaper than red so do something to promote them
  7. Promote! – Enclose an offer for March in every delivery (offer should be an inexpensive in-store pickup)
  8. Delivery Manager – nominate one employee as the delivery manager
  9. Prearrange delivery – route out deliveries you know already.
  10. Refer to last year – if you sold 800 stems of red roses you will probably need that and few more
  11. Keep impeccable records – Day of week, weather, staffing, what was ordered, what was not sold, hours open.

The Day Before/On

  1. Buy lunch – to keep everyone in the shop.
  2. Roses – when you pre-make roses in a vase before they go out, be sure to change water and also rinse the stems that have been in water.

Florist Techology

  1. Delivery routing – is standard with florist POS systems now (including Floranext). Try out yours to make sure you know how it works.
  2. Delivery notification – head off those phone calls from customers by sending out delivery confirmation emails. Your floral POS should have this built in.

After Valentine’s Day 

  1. Appreciation – Give your staff a token of appreciation for their commitment to making Valentine’s Day a success – free flowers to bring home!

On July 29th,2015 Microsoft will be releasing Windows 10, their newest operating system – should you upgrade your flower shop?

Those users who remember the last, disastrous Windows 8 version – with a confusing tile interface that was built for touch screens – may be questioning whether Windows 10 is more of the same.

Should you upgrade your flower business or wait? We took the new Windows OS for a spin and while there’s no big rush to update your system, we generally like what we see.

Reasons to Upgrade Your Flower Shop to Windows 10

    • The start menu is back! The start menu from Windows 7 that was missing in 8 is back with an expanded look. You can now find the power button, the Setting command as well as most used apps and the ability to scroll down through all your apps in alphabetical order. The expanded look also includes the tiles from Windows 8. There you can pin your favorite apps and view live tiles for News, Weather and other apps that show you up-to-the-minute information. It’s a good blend of Windows 7 & 8.1.

  • Microsoft Edge – Their all-new browser is “built to give you a better web experience”, says Microsoft. “With this browser, you can use Write2 or type notes directly on webpages and share them with others, read online articles free of distraction, and save your favorite reads for later access.” Think how great this would be to find a wedding post and add your own ideas and comments to it and send it along to a bride. That would definitely impress!

    • Cortana, their personal assistant will help keep track of your important florist wedding appointments, help with traffic analysis, set reminders and give personalized suggestions. “Cortana3 works across your day and your devices to help you get things done. By learning more over time, Cortana becomes more personal and useful to you. Cortana’s also best at reminders, delivering them at the right time and place so you forget less and can do more.” explains Microsoft.
  • Well Tested Microsoft has been beta testing the software since October 2014 with over 5 million people in their Windows Insider Program. This is a global community of fans who tested and commented on the new Windows to make it ready for release!

Reasons for Your Flower Shop to Wait on Windows 10

 

  1. Is your equipment ready? If you are running the latest version of either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1, you should fine. If not, go here for more detailed information on what is required.
  2. Do you love your Windows 7? If you loved these on your Windows 7, you might want to hold off on updating but you have till January 14th, 2020 before Microsoft ends Windows 7 support.
  3. Older Printer Scanner – Your printer and scanner are older and you are not sure if they will work with Windows 10. Wait and check with manufacturers to make sure they are compatible before upgrading. You don’t want to upgrade and then need to purchase a new printer or scanner to get the work done at your shop.

Most Florists Will Like Windows 10

Overall we like where Microsoft is going with Windows 10 and we think most florists will too – better look, smart, dynamic, personalized operating system. That said, the first few months of a new OS can be bumpy so there’s no big rush to upgrade right away.
